UYONET Kicksoff Election Caravan Dialogues around Kampala Areas
Following accreditation by the Electoral Commission to conduct civic and voter education, UYONET has embarked on conducting a number of election caravans to promote peaceful and non - violent youth participation in electoral processes ahead of 2016 Uganda’s general elections. The election caravans are being undertaken as a peace campaigns to promote peace before, during and after the 2016 general elections.
The initiative dubbed: “Election Caravan” is aimed at avoiding violent conflict and mayhem in the upcoming Elections and would be used as a platform to sensitize Ugandans about the importance of peace for national development. The caravans are being held in selected urban slum areas as an initiative aimed at championing peaceful elections.
The youth led initiative that utilizes infotainment (comedy, music, drama etc) to promote peace for free and fair elections started yesterday Thursday January 13, 2016 in Gayaza with popular stand-up comedy sensations, “Arthur the Vaccine” and “Dolibondo” spearheading campaigns for preaching peaceful elections.
The caravans disseminate peace messages focusing on the need to encourage issued based election campaigns, informing young people on the importance of their participation in elections and to increase the “votability” of young people in the forthcoming Uganda’s 2016 general elections. The caravans also provide an avenue / platform to popularize the National Youth Manifesto 2016-2021.
